Research Title:
Apartheid as a Crime against Humanity
Research Outline:
Apartheid as a Crime against Humanity is the title of a monograph I have under contract with Oxford University Press. The research for the monograph considers the historical development of the definition of the crime of apartheid in the Apartheid Convention and the ICC Statute. Not since John Dugard’s Human Rights and the South African Legal Order, published by Princeton University Press in 1978, has any scholar attempted to write a monograph on the law of apartheid or how it came to be defined as a crime against humanity that is applicable globally. The focus on apartheid as a crime against humanity will therefore break new ground by making a distinctive and original contribution to the law and history of apartheid.
