She is the national expert for Spain in the Odysseus Academic Network for Legal Studies on Immigration and Asylum, co-managing editor of the European Journal of Migration and Law, and serves on the editorial board of the Revista de Derecho Comunitario Europeo.
Research Area:
Sources of public international law / Law of international organisations / International law and domestic law
Research Title:
“The impact of the European Union on the sources of international law”
Research Outline:
Her research examines the impact of the European Union on the international legal order. In particular, it explores how the EU, especially through its external action, influences the development of international rules and principles, examining the implications of its practice for the system of sources of international law.
The research focuses on the Union's contribution, through its external practice and the ECJ's case law, to the development of the law of treaties, customary international law, and unilateral acts. It also examines the Union's role in the development of non-legally binding agreements. More broadly, it considers how the distinctive legal nature of the EU shapes the development of international law and the extent to which international law accommodates the growing norm-generating role of international organisations and the EU’s ‘exceptionalism’.
Drawing on doctrinal legal analysis and a problem-solving approach, the research engages with current debates on the evolution of the sources of international law and the role of international organisations in contemporary international law-making.
